Greening your period is so easy with Sckoon Cloth Menstrual Pads! Every month, my daughter and I used a package of pads AND a box of tampons. EACH. Per period. Every month. That was a lot of trash, as well as chemicals that are in the pads and tampons. Not good. TSS can easily happen while using tampons, and even when NOT using them, and that’s a scary thing. What to do?
Well, try cloth pads, whydoncha?
Originally, I was kinda “grossed out” about the idea of washing a pad and reusing it, but I did get over it. I simply kept a bucket with a lid in the bathroom during my period with some homemade laundry soap and a put the liners in there to soak after use and emptied it out every two days to wash them. Okay, so my hubby wasn’t exactly “thrilled” about the bucket in the bathroom at first, either. We compromised and set it in the shower with the shower curtain closed when the shower wasn’t in use.
The colors were pretty, and the cotton very soft and comfortable to use. It was rather nice not having to worry about trash, or running out in the middle of a cycle, too. The snap on base was easy to use, and all you had to change was the inner liner that was held in place securely with a snap. Even with a heavy flow, they stayed in place and I had no issues with leaks.
Made of organic cotton, one pad can easily last 6-8 years, and that is a HUGE savings every month as well! Of course, you need several liners and I would totally recommend that you have several “pads” as well, just in case. Carrying them with you is easy. I just had a baggie in my purse for soiled liners when I needed to change them out and then put it in the bucket when I got home.
They washed well, and I hung them up on a hanger with a clothespin to dry. Easy peasy!
