As a homesteader, part of my life is spent growing and preserving foods.
That ensures my family has food to eat all year long. It’s the way the pioneers did it, and the way it was done for millenia. If you didn’t bust butt in the fields in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, you went hungry in the Winter.
When you have the mind of a homesteader, food storage is always at the forefront of your mind. Your garden planning and your animal planning all has to be taken into account. You will be thinking things like:
“How many tomatoes do I need to plant to get a year’s worth of spaghetti sauce?”
“What can I do with 10,000 cucumbers?”
“Why aren’t there ever enough peas to freeze? Hubby must’ve been munching as he was harvesting”
“Where did those strawberries go…I was about to make jam? Oh, the kids ate them ALL….again!”
That’s where having the ability to supplement your home grown food storage comes in. Valley Food Storage has some great products to help. You can purchase quality freeze dried foods to supplement your food storage. You can choose as much or as little as you would like to purchase. From their year supply, to a 1 month of entrees, to single packets, they will fit any budget.

The food is delicious.
We tried the dried strawberries, peanut butter powder, coconut milk bites and the yogurt bites. We loved the yogurt bites. As a matter of fact, they were gone in less than 30 minutes!
We would definitely order them again. And again. And again. The same thing with the coconut milk bites. Gone in less than 30 minutes!
(note to self-HIDE all the food until recipes are created, tested and written!)
The strawberries on their own didn’t have a lot of flavor, but they packed a punch in this smoothie! I added more strawberries than what the package says to add to the water. I felt they needed more berries to get the flavor right. I liked the idea of making peanut butter, the the peanut butter powder is great for adding to smoothies or shakes for an additional protein boost.
