I had the honor of being part of GreenMomsMeet’s first WOW summit in Philadelphia PA recently. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to actually go, but they made sure it happened. Honored, and totally blown away by their generosity, how could I say no?
My pal, Dawn and I headed out at 4Am on Sunday morning for a 12 hour road trip to Philly. We were so excited about the journey, that we barely noticed how long it was. We also didn’t notice the proper toll road in PA, and blew past without paying the toll, but that’s another story…
Anyway, when we got to the hotel, there were people all over, scrambling around. We checked into the room, and into the Summit. Our first night, there was an awesome cocktail reception where Zevia cocktails were featured. Applegate supplied all the meat and cheeses and there was an awesome mashed potato bar! My phone had just totally overheated, and my camera was fried, so I have no pictures of that. Yeah, I forgot the batteries for my real camera…
We met a couple of wonderful ladies and munched with them; talking and laughing and getting to know each other. Then, it was time to hit the hay. I slept so soundly, that I didn’t even notice if the lights were on all night (they were).
The next morning, I reset my phone, and off we went to the Summit. Wow! There were a lot of people there! The vendors were all so fired up and you could feel the air of excitement! Listening to the presenters talk about Kiwi Magazine, healthy living, and natural parenting left me feeling on top of the world. I was so encouraged, so uplifted about my journey to real foods, green living, and natural parenting.
Then, we got let loose into the vendor’s room! OMG!!!! There were so many Moms there, that it was hard to see what they had to offer, but push through we all did. The vendors were so generous with their wares, and expertise and knowledge of their products as well.
Lunch was with some great blogging friends, Heather and Barbara, whom we had planned on meeting up with. We knew them from online groups, but this was the first we met in “real life”. They were so wonderful to talk to, and lunch at the hotel was fabulous!
After the afternoon sessions, Dawn and I went to our room to relax and change before the banquet. And what a banquet it was! Holy moley! Champagne, wine, and the best chicken breast stuffed with dried tomatoes and artichokes! The live entertainment was hopping, and almost all of the ladies had hit the dance floor, and even started a conga line. NO, I didn’t dance, I don’t shake it anymore
The next morning, we had a few more talks and my favorite one was by Jess of Whole Foods, talking about avoiding processed foods in your diet. I loved her perspective on it, and the idea of a fast food restaurant cheeseburger having over 78 ingredients blew me away!
Leaving the Summit was hard, because I felt like I had made so many new friends in such a short time. But, SWAG time! The vendors were once again so generous!!
And, I am so set on going back next year!! Here’s a big thank you to all the people who made it possible for me to go:
