I am a huge fan of making your own bath and beauty products.
To me, there’s just a feeling of satisfaction in doing so. However, there are times when you simply can’t or don’t want to do so. Or you need some new ideas, or you just want to try something new. I personally would much rather support small businesses over larger companies, because I understand what it takes to get a business off the ground. Enter Herban Lifestyle.
I recently got to try some of her handcrafted items and I was blown out of the water! Let me tell you about what I got to try.
The Adzuki and Dulse cleansing grains were awesome.
After a long day out in the garden, sweating and covered with grime and dirt (I love Spring!) it was nice to have something more along the lines of exfoliating to wash my face with. It was gentle, but left my face feeling clean and soft. The directions call for 1 teaspoon of the product with a bit of water, but I felt like I needed more along the lines of 1 Tablespoon to get the job done. What’s really nice about this is that the little jars will soon be refillable, meaning you won’t have to order jars each time. There will be product you can just fill them up with. Of course, having lots of neat little jars isn’t a problem for me…I’m a true addict. But, it’s a greener way to clean your face with spa like cleansing.
The shampoo bar was lovely to use.
Well, for the most part. I was using a commercial product from Whole Foods that I liked, and although it seemed more gentle on my hair, it still acted like a shampoo and stripped all the natural oils with the grease and grime each time I washed it. Using the shampoo bar meant that my hair had to undergo a transition period again, and it was nasty at first. However, the transition period only took about 2 weeks and my hair seemed a lot softer using this bar. It suds up nicely and I was in love with the scent as well. My daughter used it on her long, thick hair and liked it as well. My boys refused to use it, as they thought it “smelled too girly” but my hubby thought it worked nice on his hair as well.
After a long day in the garden, and taking a shower to get all that nature off your skin, adding a soothing body butter is just the ticket to relaxation.
I really enjoyed her vanilla lavender body butter. It was nice and thick, creamy and softly scented. The cocoa butter was just the thing my skin needed as well. Of course, the drawback to that was my kids were POSITIVE that I was holding out on sharing some type of chocolate from them, due to the scent. I had to hide this from my daughter so that I could be assured of having it for more than a week. It was really nice to smooth all over my body, and it did wonders on my tired feet as well.
And of course, what body shop doesn’t have lip balm?
The coconut lime balm is now my favorite to carry everywhere with me. I love the scent! I can’t believe I never thought of adding lime to lip balm before, either! It was a tropical type of scent, and the product itself glided on smoothly and felt really nice. I normally don’t have too many issues with dried chapped lips in the Spring and Summer, but it still felt nice putting on.
