Pear Sauce

Servings 4 pints


  • 3 pounds ripe pears
  • 1/4 cup water


  • Slice the pears in 1/2 and remove the seeds and stems.
  • Place the pear halves in a heavy bottomed skillet and add the water.
  • Simmer on low for 5 minutes, mushing with a fork or potato masher as they cook.
  • For a smoother pear sauce, process in batches in a jar blender or use a stick blender in the pot. Process until as smooth as you like.


Optional additions that taste wonderful as well:
  • 1 sliced and scraped vanilla bean
  • 1/2 cup cherries mashed with the pears
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, mashed with the pears
