If you’ve got chickens, they’ve got to have a chicken coop, and if you’ve got a chicken coop, it’s got to have a name. Look, it’s the law. Really. I don’t make the rules, I’m just here to help you figure them out! According to statistics that I just made up, you and your chickens will be happier and healthier if your chicken coop has a snazzy name that really captures the essence of your flock and your attitude.

Whether you’re a doting chicken mom or dad who would do anything for your feather babies, an exasperated homesteader braving broody hens for fresh eggs, or the nervous keeper of a ferocious rooster, I guarantee you’ll find a name you’ll love on the massive list of coop names I have assembled below. Keep reading and we will get right into them.
Most Popular Coop Names
Sometimes it’s okay to join the crowd, do the fun thing, do the popular thing. Chicken coops have trendy names just like everything else.
And to be fair, there’s a reason why the most popular ones are as popular as they are: they are catchy, iconic, fun, and they look great engraved or burned into a wood plaque above the coop entrance.
I’ve rounded up some of the most perennially popular coop names that I’ve seen time and time again over the years, both in person and on the internet.
And don’t worry about the faux pas of having a duplicate coop name: unless you live in a place that is just swarming with chicken keepers, yours will be unique enough to the people that see it!

Funny Coop Names
Most of us get into keeping chickens for the eggs, and sometimes the meat. But you’d better believe that some of the real joy of owning these birds comes from watching their antics and adventures. Chickens are just plain funny!
If you have an especially comedic flock or you just love to watch and laugh as they go about their day, you should bust out one of the following funny names from the list below. A couple are a little racy, but still PG and appropriate for the whole family – as long as kids don’t mispronounce them!
- Cluckingham Palace
- Eggs-tra-ordinary Estate
- Mother Cluckers
- The Pecking Order
- Fowl Play Zone
- Fuster Clucks
- Coop de Ville

Small Coop Names
Every chicken coop, every single one, deserves a name. Even the humblest and smallest that is freshly assembled for a tiny backyard flock of three or four birds should be minted with a name of its own. It’s kind of like naming a ship; it’s really bad luck not to!
If your coop is closer to a dog house in size or just a little bit bigger, the following are perfect: suitable for the smaller structure but still packed with personality and fun.
And who knows? Your flock and your coop might grow out of it, but then again, you may want to keep the tradition going even after your birds graduate to a larger one.

- Bantam Bungalow
- The Cozy Crèche
- My Mini Egg Factory
- Studio Coop
- Chicken Dorm
- The Snug Roost

Big Coop Names
Just the opposite compared to the previous category. Some chicken coops get huge, the size of a good-sized shed or even bigger! For mini barns, walk-ins, and other structures suitable for housing the largest flocks that homesteaders are likely to have, these names are perfect.
A bit imposing, a bit imperious, but always commanding respect. Of course, you could always go the tongue-in-cheek route and give a small coop one of these names just to be ironic. I’m not judging!
- The Grand Hotel
- Mega Manor
- Feathered Fortress
- Poultry Palace
- Expansive Egg-states
- Barad-Dûr
- The Colosseum
- The Clucker Compound
- Royal Roost

Raised Coop Names
For some keepers, elevated coops are a necessity: you might have problems with muddy conditions, flooding, or predators. Whatever the case, getting the coop up off the ground helps keep the birds inside dry, safe, and happy.
It’s a bit surprising how tall a raised coop can be, but it’s a design decision that rates an appropriate name. Any one of the names below will lift your coop above the ordinary.
- Elevated Eggs
- Sky High Poultry Sty
- The Perch
- Lifted Layer
- Raised Roost
- The Treehouse
- The Penthouse
- High & Mighty
- The Loft
- Elevated Estates
- Cloud Nine
- The Lookout
Mobile Coop / Tractor Names
One of the most versatile and useful coop designs around, and perfect for larger properties. Popping your flock into a tractor will allow you to contain them but reposition them so they don’t exhaust the land – or make it too smelly with their leavings!
Raising chickens in a tractor is a bit of a different lifestyle in comparison, though, and since you’re here, I think it’s appropriate to give the tractor its due with a snappy name.
- The Rolling Roost
- Eggs-On-Wheels
- The Caravan
- The Cluck Truck
- Wandering Wings
- Mobile Egg Factory
- The Traveler
- Roamer’s Retreat
- The Hen Hauler
- Cruiser Coop
- On the Road Again
A-Frame Coop Names
A-frames are some of my very favorite chicken coops. In fact, it was the first coop that I ever built myself. Highly efficient, affordable, and adaptable to many different kinds of property and chicken breeds, it’s hard to go wrong with a good A-frame, especially if you’re short on materials or don’t have a lot of experience framing.
A-frames remind people of different things, from cabins to lodges and everything in between. Some chicken keepers choose an A-frame just because they are distinctive or complement their personal style. It’s as good a reason as any; your chickens will love it no matter what.

- The Pitched Perch
- A-plus Accommodations
- The Ridgeline
- The Pyramid

Hen-Only Coop Names
Like I said above, most keepers get a flock of chickens in the first place for the eggs. And if eggs are all you want from your flock, you only need hens. There’s not one thing wrong with that, and keeping only girls can make your life a whole lot easier and more straightforward compared to a mixed flock with a rooster or two.
Naturally, this is a prime opportunity to have a little bit of fun when naming the coop. An all-hen hangout will be well served by any of the following names.
- Scratcher Sisterhood
- Ladies’ Laying Lounge
- The Girls Gettogether
- No Roos Allowed
- The Hen Harem
- Just Us Girls
- Pullet Paradise
- The Convent
- Lay or Git
- The She-Shed
Rooster Colony Coop Names
At the other end of the spectrum, you might have a coop that houses only roosters, maybe even just one rooster. I don’t know too many people that get a flock of just roosters intentionally, but they tend to end up with them if they buy chicks straight run or let their chickens reproduce the way nature intended.
Sometimes roosters have to be separated from the rest of the flock for the good of all, and in these cases, you end up with a rooster colony. Whether a single rooster needs his own pad or you’ve exiled some rowdy boys to the opposite end of your property, you can whip out one of these names.

Egg-Centric Coop Names
Eggs, eggs, eggs: that’s what we all want from our chickens. Nothing on earth beats a truly farm-fresh egg, and the coop is the keystone of egg production and should be named accordingly. This is another pun-derful, fun category that is sure to get a rise out of your friends and visitors.

Bantam Breed Coop Names
Some chickens pack in a lot of attitude and beauty into a tiny package. Small chicken breeds, known as bantams, might be especially bred to be that way or be smaller versions of other, larger domestic breeds. Whatever the case, they are pint-sized and full of personality.
Some chicken keepers that are space limited or just grow to love bantams particularly might have a whole flock of them. If that describes you, lean into the bantam theme by giving their coop a correspondingly diminutive name.

Large Breed Coop Names
And to the opposite end of the spectrum! Some chicken breeds bring a lot more to the table, literally. Large and in charge, you’ll have to prepare for them with a correspondingly larger coop. Even a relatively small flock might demand a significantly larger structure because of their greater girth.
A common name won’t work here. Big birds, big personality, big name, no exceptions!

Breed-Specific Coop Names
Some chicken keepers prefer mixed flocks, others prefer flocks of a single breed. If you fall into the latter category, this is the section for you. With a little bit of clever wordplay and some added alliterative appeal, you can truly show off your special love and appreciation for your chosen breed.

Pop Culture Coop Names
For superfans, you’ve got to give your coop a pop culture-inspired name. Music, movies, TV shows, comic books, and a whole lot more; all can provide you with plenty of inspiration for a memorable name. This is another great way to show off your personality and also to strike up conversations with people who see the coop. If they recognize the in-joke, as it were, you’ll likely become fast friends.
